About PCLI

The Reason
PCLI is an educational forum in which participants study the myriad of private businesses, public and non profit agencies, and elected officials who make up the economic and political environment of Poway and the surrounding communities. The Poway Community Leadership Institute (PCLI) identifies emerging community leaders and offers them broad exposure to issues considered vital to our community.
The Benefits
- Gain clarity and knowledge of the complex issues that impact Poway and the surrounding communities.
- Expand your understanding of how decisions are made in Poway
- Increase your capability and effectiveness as a community leader
- Broaden your network and connectivity to an extensive group of community leaders, agencies and organizations
- Interact with industry leaders and community decision makers
The Curriculum
Applicants chosen for the leadership program will have the unique opportunity to develop their potential for public responsibility. Each session is designed to inform, motivate and challenge the participant. Community leaders and past PCLI graduates have collaborated and crafted exciting and informative monthly agendas that cover a variety of perspectives, through panels, tours, individual presentations and networking time with speakers and class participants.
The 8-month curriculum will begin in October with an all day session and with a 4-hour session once a month through May. Participants are expected to attend all monthly sessions, complete a hands-on project requiring an additional 40+ hours during the year, and attend a Poway City Council Meeting, a Poway Chamber Board Meeting, a Poway service club meeting, and a Poway Unified School District Board Meeting throughout the course of the program year.
