About PCLI

The Reason
One measure of a dynamic, progressive community is the caliber of leaders and their voluntary contributions to that community. The Poway Community Leadership Institute (PCLI) identifies emerging community leaders and offers them broad exposure to issues considered vital to our community. PCLI is an educational forum in which participants look into the myriad of private businesses, public and non profit agencies, and elected officials who make up the economic and political environment of Poway and the surrounding communities. Through these contacts, interactive exercises and field trips, participants expand their leadership skills, knowledge and influence on our community.
The Benefits
- Gain clarity and knowledge of the complex issues that impact Poway and the surrounding communities.
- Expand your understanding of how decisions are made in Poway
- Increase your capability and effectiveness as a community leader
- Broaden your network and connectivity to an extensive group of community leaders, agencies and organizations
- Interact with industry leaders and community decision makers
The Curriculum
Applicants chosen for the program will have the unique opportunity to develop their potential for public responsibility. Each session is designed to inform, motivate and challenge the participant. A volunteer community leader has designed each session to present issues from various perspectives, through the use of panels, tours and individual presentations.
Sessions are held one day a month from 8 am to 12:30 pm for 9 months. Participants are expected to attend all sessions. In addition, participants will complete a hands-on Team Project requiring an additional 40+ hours throughout the program year.
